  [S1] Newspaper Clipping, 20 May 1898, The Democratic Advocate. Suicide at New Windsor Adam W. Bloom Fired Five Shots Into His Body But Lived Eleven Hours Thereafter Mr. Adam W. Bloom, of New Windsor, committed suicide on Friday, May 20th, by shooting himself in the side.Mr. Bloom had been in bad health for a year or more and a recent attack of grippe seem to have unsettled his mind and left him in a very despondent condition, and fears were at one time entertained that he might do violence to himself. On the morning of the sad occurrence Mr. Bloom went into an upper room of his place of business and fired five shots from a 32-caliber revolver into his side and another cartridge bore marks of the hammer. He had evidently aimed for his heart but all the bullets went below the mark, one coming out of the back near the spinal column. He remained unconscious from the time of the shooting about 10:30 a.m., until his death at 9 p.m. Mr. Bloom conducted a creamery near the station for about six years and was one of New Windsor's most respected citizens. At different periods he had conducted the creamery for the late John Sauble and also the Cold Spring Creamery. He was born near Bloom's Mill, in this county, and his father being killed during the late war, was brought up by his grandfather. He married a Miss Hook, who, with six children, survives him. His funeral on Sunday was very largely attended by persons from all sections, by whom he was known and universally respected.
