  [S1] Newspaper Clipping, 4 Dec 1921, Pittsburgh Press. Peter Soffel, aged 83, retired shoe merchant of Mt. Washington and a resident of Pittsburgh 69 years, died yesterday in the home of his daughter, Mrs. Fred A Fichtel, 119 Sycamore street, Mt. Washington. He was born in Germany and came to the United States in 1852, settling in the South HIlls district where he engaged inthe shoe business. He retired in 1904. Mr. Soffel was a member of the First German of Pittsburgh and the Independent Order of Odd Fellows. He leaves two daughters, Mrs. Fichtel and Mrs. E. W. Smith if McDonald; eight sons, Peter K Soffel of Canton, O., Alfred E. Soffel of Los Angelas, Herman E. Soffel of Detriot, George H. Soffel , Jacob Soffel, Samuel Soffel, Walter A. Soffel and O. R. Soffel, of PIttsburgh and 11 grandchildren.
