  [S1] Newspaper Clipping, 29 Mar 1889, The Shippensburg News. Death of Mrs. Margaret J. Harper Mrs. Margaret Johnston Harper, died in New York City, Wednesday of last week, March 20th, after a brief illness from an acute attack of peritonitis. Mrs. Harper was a daughter of the late John Johnston, Esq., for many years a resident of Southampton Township, Franklin County. On July 5, 1852, she became the wife of Mr. John Harper, eldest son of the late Rev. Dr. James Harper, and with her husband removed to Colorado Territory, but her husband, on account of impaired health, returned to Shippensburg, where he remained until his death in 1874. Mrs. Harper was left with three children, two sons and a daughter, and for some years past has been living in Denver, Col. Her son John had been living in New York City for some months receiving medical attention, and it was while on a visit to him she was suddenly taken ill, and only a few weeks previous was in this borough. The intelligence of her death was altogether unexpected and startling. Mr. George V. Johnston, who lives on the old homestead south of this Borough, is the only living brother, and Mr. John E. Johnston, who died about one year ago, was also a brother. Mrs. Harper was a most exemplary and Christian woman and had many warm friends and acquaintances in this community. Her body reached this place Tuesday morning and the funeral took place from the residence of her mother, Amanda Johnston, on South Penn street. Her age was sixty years.
