  [S1] Newspaper Clipping, 1 Aug 1899, Carlisle Evening Herald. Mrs. Jane Phillips died on Sunday morning at the residence of her son-in-law, John A. Craig, near Shippnsnburg. Her interment took place last evening in Spring Hill Cemetery, Shippensburg, at 6 o'clock. She had been confined to her bed for some days froma serious injury by a fall and was in her 84th year. Mrs. Phillips was born in the stone house at Colwell's mill on teh road leading from Middle Spring to Shippensburg, where she spent her childhood and young womanhood. She married James Phillips, Carlisle, and after marriage they removed to Washington city where they resided until his death. She then returned to Shippensburg where she again made her home. For several years she and her sister, Elizabeth Colwell, who died January 11 last in her 90th year, resided together. Since, her home has been with her daughter, Mrs. John A. Craig. She was the last of the Colwell family. Here brother, Captain James S. Colwell, was killed at the head of his company at the battle of Antietam. Her sister, Mrs. Mary McCune, died years years ago, and another sister, Mrs. David Hayes, died at the age of 84 in 1895. Mrs. Phillips; family who survive her are Mrs. John A. Craig, Mrs. Mary Witherow, and Mrs Bella Johnston, Shippensburg.
